January 18, 2009

Filed under: EN, Software — Plnt @ 11:00 pm

I received couple of queries from my friends about which J2ME programs I use on my mobile phone. I decided to summarize most of the programs I use, I used in the past or programs I just tried and found useful. I'll try to make similar list for Windows Mobile applications as well.

I've recently bought HP Compaq 2510p notebook (thanks to MEGAOBCHOD.cz for fast and reliable delivery). I wiped out the default Windows Vista installation and installed KUbuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon on it. There was no problem during installation. Most of the things works out of the box. Here are some basic informations which can help other owners of this notebook using Linux.

Ath-driver.org, OpenHAL HOWTO

Filed under: EN, WiFi — Plnt @ 2:22 pm

In the last few days I was solving problem with accessing EEPROM in Atheros cards in case there is checksum error when loading MadWifi + original Atheros HAL.

After few hours of experiments I found working solution provided by madwifi-old driver in combination with OpenHAL (from ath-driver.org), which is open-source implementation of Atheros HAL (not yet finished). Here are few notes how to get these things to work.

Atheros PCI-MiniPCI reduction 3.3V power supply HW patch

January 11, 2007

Filed under: EN, WiFi — Plnt @ 4:02 pm

If you ever tried to use Atheros MiniPCI module (ie. Wistron Neweb CM9) in older computer, you probably failed. The reason is old revision of PCI bus. PCI 2.2 introduces 3.3 volt availability for peripherals usage. The new Atheros MiniPCI modules require this feature. If you use them in PCI reduction in older motherboard, you need to find 3.3V source somewhere else. There are few ways how to get around this, one of them is described in this article.

Borat and British cinemas

November 24, 2006

Filed under: EN, Study in UK — Plnt @ 1:07 pm

In the last few days I was thinking about going to cinema to see one of these movies – Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, Saw III and Children of Men. DVD release of all of them is far away – cinema was the best choice.

After short search I found cinema ticket for reasonable price. Film was great – I was laughing all the time. I recommend it to everyone ;).

But I was negativly impressed by British cinemas. Ad-spots in the beginning are similar to Czech ones. After that they try to fear the people with some anti-piracy shit and information that you can be put into the jail for filming of the movie, etc. There are also two infra-red camers in front of the hall – I hate these Big Brother improvements.

Brighton Pear and WiFi coach to Oxford

October 23, 2006

Filed under: EN, Study in UK — Plnt @ 3:38 pm

I went for a short trip to Brighton on Saturday. Weather was really nice – there were just short showers during the day .. and one big in the evening ;). I recommend to visit Royal Pavilion – you have to pay for entrance but it's worth have.

If you decide to go to Oxford by coach, don't forget to take your notebook or WiFi enabled PDA with you. Oxfordtube coaches offers free electricity plug and WiFi connection ;).

I was surprised that there is new law effective from September 2006 which requires passengers to wear seatbelts on all long distant coaches in UK.
